Maybe this time they'll have enough gas money to visit an "alien world" outside of LA County. I know they shot some scenes at Vaquez Rocks.

Must everything be remade? It would appear so.... and most of the time, without any reason at all. Ken

I was referring to Oak's comments in general. I think he may have meant that they're treading over familiar characters and storyline, rather than writing something entirely new.

Star Trek Sequel on the Fast Trackwww.comingsoon.net/news/startreknews.php?id=54093As Paramount Pictures is moving forward with a sequel to its May 8 release, Star Trek, and has hired Roberto Orci, Alex Kurtzman and Damon Lindelof to write the screenplay.
Variety says J.J. Abrams, who directed and produced the new film, is on board to produce the follow-up alongside his Bad Robot partner Bryan Burk. No decision has been made yet on whether Abrams will direct the sequel.
Orci, Kurtzman and Lindelof also are receiving producing credit on the sequel.
The story is still in the embryonic stage, but the trio are aiming to deliver their script to the Melrose studio by Christmas for what would likely be a summer 2011 release.
"Obviously we discussed ideas, but we are waiting to see how audiences respond next month," Kurtzman said. "With a franchise rebirth, the first movie has to be about origin. But with a second, you have the opportunity to explore incredibly exciting things. We'll be ambitious about what we'll do."
Though Orci and Kurtzman have worked together as a writing team for more than 12 years, the duo has worked with Lindelof on only one screenplay - DreamWorks' Cowboys & Aliens, which they are currently writing together.Ken

As no one has noted, yet. This movie kicks ASS!!!! You can tell it's really designed to appeal to non-fans as much as Trekkers (that's the appropriate form of "Trekkie").
This movie was just great fun. Really an uplifting ending, all is well and the first 5 year mission of James T. Kirk begins!

Here's an interesting anecdote about "Trekkies vs. Trekkers". The issue is also shown in the film Trekkies 2, in which a Star Trek fan recounts a supposed incident during a Star Trek convention where Gene Roddenberry used the term "trekkies" to describe fans of the show, only to be corrected by a fan that stood up and yelled "Trekkers!" Gene Roddenberry allegedly responded with "No, it's 'Trekkies.' I should know — I invented the thing."

Actually, I think Trekkies is the plural for Trekker. ;D

I've never been either, but I would prefer "Trekker" if I was going to be called one or the other.

AWESOME!!! I'm also a Star Trek Fan. My earliest memory of Star Trek actually was before I even watched any episode at all. My parents were watching Star Trek: Voyager, and I caught a glimpse of a girl with a metallic brace around her eye. From that point until I first saw "The Cage," I thought Star Trek was about the creepy girl with the brace around her eye. Me, my brother, and my older sister got hooked on TOS the first time we saw it. And after we moved to Arizona, our parents decided we were old enough to watch Voyager. But they put serious restrictions on it. There are a lot of episodes that involve stupid stuff, creepy stuff, gory stuff, etc. But it's still a good series. TOS wins the gold medal, though. All of those episodes are good, and there's nothing obscene or anything. My sister, Amy, loves the original Enterprise design, but I favor the Enterprise-A. Not the refit, the A. For some reason, the A just seems cooler to me. They botched the new movie design. Must all modern spaceships be "streamlined," even when they aren't designed to go into an atmosphere? Steven

Well, I must say that The Next Generation is my favourite show. It was the one I first watched and the show that got me interested in Star Trek in the first place. I must say that I don't really enjoy The Original Series that much. Sure, it was the start of the whole franchise, but I just find it far too campy and I can't get past some of the bad acting in some episodes (particularly in season 3).
Obviously, my favourite Enterprise design is the Galaxy class U.S.S. Enterprise NCC-1701-D from TNG.
And I LOVED the new movie design for the ship. I thought it was a very nice homage to the original ship while also giving it a bit more of a "contemporary" feel for modern audiences.

From what I've heard of TNG, I wouldn't like it at all. But if you like it, then that's great. I think the new movie Enterprise looks like it forgot to shut its eyes during the Miracle of the Ark. My biggest problem with the new design is that the neck (The part that connects the saucer and the secondary hull) is too far back on the secondary hull, making it look like it's having a chiropractic problem. If the neck was placed further up, it would've been a major improvement. Steven

Steven,
I know what the neck is! LMAO!!!
And what have you heard about TNG that makes you think you mightn't like it?

Bald captain, creepy plots, and the fact that my parents don't like it either. Seriously, there are only four out of the six Star Trek captains that have hair: the Enterprise Captain, Pike, Kirk, and Janeway.

Well, the fact that Captain Picard is bald has nothing to do with the standard of the show. I'll admit, the first 2 seasons of the show are terrible, but from season 3 onwards, it's absolutely amazing. And the fact that your parents don't like it has nothing to do with the fact that you may like it or even love it.
Having hair doesn't make one any more of a capable starship captain than one who is bald.

This isn't going to become an argument, is it? Just as a heads-up, we're both going to be banned from the lounge at this rate.
BTW, I don't think my parents would be very happy when they see me watching a show they don't agree with. I AM their kid, after all.
