This seemed to be the place to post. I just wanted to know what people thought of the new Doctor Who. I like David Tennant (though Tom Baker is still my fave), but I think that the new series, particularly series 4's conclusion, isn't up to the same standard (generally) as the old Doctors. Yes, some of the old stories were ridiculous, but as a whole, they were often more complex and interesting over the span of a week's worth of episodes than the single, hour long episodes of the new series. Any thoughts? ??

i do enjoy the new Doctor Who show. I remember the Tom Baker ones from my youth when they would be on public television. I do hear what your saying about some of the older story arcs though. some of them spanned an entire season. I hope Tennant sticks around for a bit though. there have been rumors of him leaving and being replaced by everyone from Robert Carlyle to the guy who played the Master last season. I guess that time will tell. they're gonna take an awfully long production break between season 4 and 5 though. yuck!!

Nope, Tennant is staying on. However, the series will be almost "restarting", not in continuity, but in feel. He will be travelling with all-new people, as the old have all left. He may encounter them, but in Series 5, we have some surprises ahead. Series 4 Spoiler following At the end of series 4, Earth is shifted to another part of the galaxy by this season's returning villain, Davros. This is done so that he can escape the vengeance of certain characters introduced earlier in the season. Now, am I the only one reminded of Dragonlance's War of Souls??? Stuff like that is why I prefer the older series, it was more original.

I actually disliked Rose. I mean, Billie Piper is great (as an actress, not so much as a singer), but I thought her relationship with the Doctor went too far. Sarah Jane travelled with the Doctor for YEARS, and he just dumped her in Aberdeen without a look back. Adric DIED, and it took the doctor all of two adventures to get over it. He left Susan in the future, and he didn't change much. And now, when he leaves Rose, he gets all broken up. It just isn't the Doctor, IMAO.

so no Donna, Martha, Rose, Captain Jack or anybody? bummer! I believe that is a supposition, to be honest, no one outside of the production crew knows. Not wanting to spoiler, Torchwood is continuing next year, some of our friends will be there. So is SJA. It's not impossible that some will guest star in Who. The most likely thing is that there will be Celeb companions for the specials next year and a new companion for series 5.

Thanks, KT! whichever way it goes, i'll just be glad to see the Doctor in action again!

I've actually heard rumors about including some of the past Doctors (just the ninth and the eight) in one of the coming specials. Maybe to build the bridge between the eight and ninth doctor? It's just a rumor though, it would be cool none the less.
