hello everyone. My name is Scott, and I'm a newbie. Well, I just got a Todd's Standard, size large. I live close enough to Todd that I went to his shop and picked it up. They are wonderful people to work with, and I will be getting more gear there...(bank account permitting.) Anyways, my oldest son and I went to an abandoned mine East of Bakersfield, so as to explore, and generally just get dirty. I wore my Todd's jacket, as well as the Mark VII bag and strap I got from him, as well as My new akubra Adventurer that my wife got me for Fathers day...(Cairo bash, did it myself). There are a few tight squeezes in that old abandoned gold mine, requiring a bit of belly crawling over rocks and soft dirt. The jacket held up remarkably well...especially when i scraped my back on an outcropping of granite. I had read that people were afraid that the lambskin was too thin, but mine came through without any tears or snags. Just thought I would let you know that the Standard can hold up in cave/mines/temples just fine ...so far. More adventures coming soon!

bakersfieldjones, Welcome to the Lounge. I agree, Todd and his crew are all great people and very nice to deal with. I'm glad you are enjoying the new gear and putting it to good use. Cheers, John

Welcome to the lounge Scott. I have the same jacket and the story makes me feel a bit better about using (or abusing) mine. It might not stand up to being dragged under a truck but who knows. ;D It would also be really cool to see some pics of your gear too.

It might not stand up to being dragged under a truck but who knows. ;D Hey Indiana Sam, I do know something about that, check out my video on youtube ! Link to the video : www.youtube.com/watch?v=FHvV3PSm8Mo#It's not a big deal, my friend Jason was only driving at 10 km/h (approximately 6 m/h), but it was painful and funny. Oh , btw Scott, welcome to Indylounge ! have fun posting, J-F

So the Todd's did stand up to being pulled behind a truck, wow! Actually, it isn't a Todd's Jacket. It is an old jacket I bought to my friend jason for 40 bucks. I use it for my Indy Adventures. Here is a picture of it using the indoor flash: I am not sure what kind of leather it is made of, but it is very cheap and I'm sure that Todd's one would last longer than this one. J-F

There are a couple of pics that my son took, but he and his camera are at his girlfriend's birthday party. I'll try to upload them when I can. Please don't knitpick...The costume isn't complete...(white shirt...no whip, and a Bowie knife instead of a gun)...but I'll get there someday.

Welcome to Indy Lounge! I honestly don't believe anyone here would criticize you for having only a partial outfit, or for substituting alternate items with it. Most everyone here understands that the primary goal of this hobby/interest is to have fun with it. From that perspective, whatever level of accuracy some of us can afford (or are willing to spend for), is just fine. I hope you enjoy yourself here and we'll be looking forward to the pics. Ken

Thank you all for the welcome. Glad to see that people like to have fun with the hobby, as opposed to being chastised by what we refer to in Civil War reenacting as "stitch Nazis."
Civil War reenacting is another money grinding hobby of mine, but I'm taking a break from it. I'm one of only 5 people that I have found who presents a living history portrayal of Stonewall Jackson in the country. (the beard is gone for now, so I don't look like Harrison in the Young Indy episode...LOL)
Have a good day, folks...I'm going to go out and watch the clouds pass by here in California....oh...wait...that's smoke from all the fires. Oh well.

My one and only Indy jacket (at the moment) is/was a Todd's standard that I needed super urgent for a costume party back in April. It arrived in Australia in exacly one week, so the service was fantastic! I ordered a medium, and it fit ok, provided I didn't want to move my arms! It was a very tight fit, and a very short jacket. I think a large would have suited better, though the sizing on the website said otherwise... I found it to be a real 'costume' jacket. It was cheap enough, and rightly so. I wouldn't want to wear it out as a normal jacket. It just looked and felt...cheap. Thin leather, not quite right color. Hard to explain. It did however, distress quite nicely, though I think I went a little overboard, it being my first attempt at distressing and all! I'll save it now my costume parties, and wear my Novapelle (soon) every day.

I see what you are saying, especially after having read various threads debating the durability of the jacket. Since it is a fairly new product, long term wearing reports aren't likely for a while. But, I'm the type of guy that just likes to see how things act in the real world, so that's when I decided to wear it in the mine. I knew there were some close tolerances...and if worse came to worse, I would give it to my son if it snagged.
Sharp angular granite pieces from having been blasted/chipped was the theme of the day in the mine, and i bumped and scraped along a few times...not lightly either (especially on the back.)
It held up.
I'm sure the other jackets mentioned..(Wested, et al.) are more durable, but from my experience so far, I won't underestimate the Todd's.
Nor will I overestimate it. But slightly above regular wear and tear pose no issues...so far.
