I was just thinking of all those jackets that we saw hanging in the production trailor.. I think there were like 30 of them delivered for the making of KoCS. I just think that this was a major waist and so unnecessary. It's not a matter of money, of course they would have plenty for many more jackets. But what I'm talking about is the fact that they knew the script didn't call for Indy to do any leather shreading activities like the truck scene in Raiders. I for one would have loved to just know that this movie was done with one jacket, that would have been so great and old school. The jacket is certainly tough enough to have taken it. I do suppose the other ones would have helped with multiple water fall takes.

First off, welcome to the Lounge. Secondly, I can partially agree with you in the theory that there were too many jackets. I think 15 or so could have done the job. No, there weren't any exuberant stunts that required so many, but they did need a few extra for Harrison's stunt doubles and stand-ins.
And there's no telling how many changed in appearance during filming. I mean, some of them were probably specially treated, but some of them might have been over exposed to the elements. I do doubt, however, that they didn't even use all 30 during production. I guess we won't know for sure what they were all used for until the DVD comes out.

Have you ever been on a movie set? Believe me when I say that probably you need even more than 30 jackets... Let's say you should do a scene where is involved muddy water, and you should repeat that scene, again and again, 30 takes, for example, you need to change the jacket every time... and that's just an example, but I'm sure you got the point! ;D

Yes actually I have, I was a crowd extra for a week during the filming of Tom Cruz's exceptionally depressing "Born on the 4th of July", once that was over I was part of a small group who was asked to come back for another week to shoot a much smaller indoor sceen with Tom.. no big wardrobe changes but I certainly remember the take after take after take. I get the point about things splashing too, but I mean a couple of three jackets would handle that IMHO also I don't remember any mud splashes, but yea I get your point. But you know if the jacket in KoCS looked as well worn as Indy's boots did, we wouldn't have really noticed anything that had splashed on it and been wiped off during takes. The abuse would have been authentic and the jacket probably would have looked better for it, IMHO. Oh, and thanks for the welcome guys.

(sorry for the delay) Then, I wasn't talking about any specific scene (I haven't see the movie yet, so...), it's just something they do, have a large wardrobe "just in case", because you'll never know what could happen, so: "better safe than sorry" it's a good "philosophy" while shooting a movie! ;D

I'll bet the idea to use so many jackets is that they will be selling them later, at astronomical prices, claiming that they were used for the movie !

The same way they had no need for over 50 hats to be made. Between all the major players getting a "take home gift" and selling the rest as screen used wardrobe gems, you might think they barely enough for the actual production. Ken

Stefana, that's probably truer than we think. I just love that these fan made films do it with one jacket (usually), that idea reminds me of how Spielberg/Lucas would have worked in the early days. Now it's all flashy and slick with lots of jackets just in case. I know that there were probably alot of jackets made for Raiders too, but I strongly suspect that Harrison wore the same one through most of the film (check out the stretch/scratch marks on the upper front shoulder area) and that's probably true of all the films including the latest.

Didn't I hear once that there were only 5 jackets for Raiders? That probably excluded the stunt men. -Josh

Apparently 14 jackets were delivered for the entire Raiders movie.. 14 lambskin jackets that were to be used through-out including the truck dragging scene. Now to me this is a big contrast to 30 jackets for KoCS where a thicker Cow hide was used and less dangerous stunts were called for. Also consider too that mistakes could even be erased or digitally corrected during editing with todays technology. These are some of the reasons Raiders can't be topped IMHO unless older methods were used, no CGI and digital editing.
