Hmmm...this sounds like it could be interesting. Brad Pitt seems like a bit of an odd choice, though, considering the many talented British actors out there these days. Not that Pitt's a bad actor...I just find it funny that they'd cast him. I guess that's why it's called "acting" though. Well, it should be a decent movie, especially for those of us who love history and follow the exploits of all the real-life inspirations for Indiana Jones (as well as those of us who've read "Seven Veils" ) -GCR

I read that Indy book a long time ago and I don't remember what the plot was about.... Just exactly how many "Real Life" Indiana Jone's were there? Everytime I turn around there's a story about someone who was supposed to be the real life inspiration for the character. It's getting a little silly... I don't really care for Brad Pitt so I'm going to pass on this film...

I would much rather see Ewan McGregor play this part as he's much better suited to pull off the accent and is one of my favorite actors. I'm sure Brad Pitt will do a fine job if everything goes as planned, but he wouldn't be on my short list for it.
The new Indy movie is likely to bring out a great deal of adventure stories, remakes, and ripoffs.

Yeah, I'd agree with that choice........It seems like every project I hear mentioned as Pitt attached to it. The media saturation on him and Angie is getting really old. I can't turn around without seeing him and her on the cover of something.

;D Good point, PH! I think I've heard the phrase "real life Indiana Jones" thrown about more and more over the last few months. I've heard it used for Roy Chapman Andrews, Hiram Bingham and now Colonel Fawcett as well, and there might have been others... The funniest part is, from what I can recall, most of the inspiration for Indiana Jones came from fictional characters from the 30's & 40's serial films, not directly from anyone in real life. (though I'm sure there was some inspiration from actual historical figures as well) Ewan McGregor would have been a fine choice, Ken, and I think he would have been far better suited than Pitt for the role. I also agree that we'll see our fair share of films, TV shows and made for TV movies jumping on the Indy-inspired "adventure" bandwagon this year. ;D -GCR

I was the real life inspiration for Indiana Jones. After seeing me as a child, Lucas was inspired to create my fictional counterpart.

Typical - the studios are in a rush to capitalize on post Indy IV adventure momentum while there's still a market for it.
Still, Pitt'll be great if he does end up doing it. Though Ewan McGregor would have been great, too...

James Gray, Brad Pitt Search for Lost Citywww.comingsoon.net/news/movienews.php?id=51208Paramount has set We Own the Night helmer James Gray to direct The Lost City of Z, reports Variety. Gray will adapt the David Grann book for Brad Pitt to star in as British soldier and spy Percy Fawcett.
The nonfiction book by Grann, a staffer at the New Yorker, will be published in April by Doubleday. Paramount acquired it earlier this year for Pitt to produce through his Paramount-based Plan B.
Fawcett left Victorian society to explore in the Amazon, and he became obsessed by the idea of an advanced civilization he called Z, which he believed existed in the depths of the jungle. Along with his son, Fawcett headed into the jungle in 1925 in search of Z and was never seen again.
"This is a terrific opportunity to do something entirely different for me," Gray said. "It is a story that will be told with an epic scale, with a main character who is larger than life."Ken

i agree. but with Pitt now at what, 45? 46?, he should be able to pull off the old man Fawcett was. i think he would do a good job.
