So I've convinced my wife to let me buy a new leather Jacket, and I've been an Indiana Jones Fan since I was 5 years old . I really dont want to Spend more then $300 or so on a jacket. But I wanted the good peoples here advice, I'm not all that concerned with SA, I'm more concerned with something that will wear well, and last. In canada we have climate that jumps all over, and I want a durable coat. I do like the LC design but I didnt see it on Wested site. Any ideas the cost on a LC design and what should I ask for to get one like that? As well anyone here from Canada ordered? what are the customs fees like etc. I'm sorry if some of this has been answered here, I'm just trying to swim through everything here and absorb it all.. Any advice comments etc. Are most appericated. Winky

I guess to follow up to this, I'm going to get my wife to measure everything (based on Wested website) anything I should know before measuring, I prefer my coats to wear a little on the loose side. As for the leather I'm thinking goat skin or Novapelle. Any suggestions on it? I dont think I need to really customize anything off of the LC style other then mayeb a zippered inside pocket unless anyone here can supply some other things to ask for.

Your options are pretty much limited due to the price. As I do not own a jacket but have done much looking, I decided on a G&B Expedition. I thought of Wested but heard of too many complaints and I don't want to pay that much for shipping, to send it back overseas. You could get one of theirs for under $300 but then shipping is another $40. You could order one of their US Wings has a Goatskin for $297 but then its $40 for shipping. Todd's standard jacket is $150 but that's kinda thin for Canada I'd imagine. Also it didn't come in tall/long. Maybe you can find one used on here, ebay or the other Indy site.

Leather prices are on the rise, I'm affraid. You'll need to cross the $300 line to have good options. Even Wested, you'll probably want some custom modifications, and likely go over. Sorry to say it, but I think all your best choices for durability, warmth, and proper styling are above $300.

G&B shipping overseas would be significantly more than $40 I guess, US Wings charges $79.80 to ship to the UK.

I ordered my wested in December, a Raiders style in dark brown lambskin. When I got it, i instantly loved it... aside from the fact that it was WAY too small. Unfortunately, my buddy had the same issue with his LC in novapell. Looked great, way too small. The problems with Wested lie in the sending back issues, shipping is $40 each way and you can only send it back once, after that, your stuck with it whether it fits or not. Personally, I think the westeds look great but they do have problems with getting the specifications right. If you do go with Wested, be as throughly detailed as possible with them so there is no risk or error. If you know certain problems that you run into buying traditional clothing, be sure to let them know so the same problems don't occur. Oh and if you're confused by what leather type, Dark-brown lambskin and the novapell looked fantastic! Good luck! and happy purchasing. -PS: Gear heads always start with the hat/jacket... it's a slippery slope towards the dark side... You've been warned...

I say if budgets the deciding factor- go with Wings. They are tough jackets too. But I would Not-Repeat NOT ever go with a Wested. Here is a thread about my experience with them indylounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=jacket&action=display&thread=187They made the LC jacket, but some of us (before we knew that there were forums) have these very un-screen accurate jackets. For some one who made the jacket, they sure can't reproduce them to save their hinies. My LC has a totally wrong collar (the Dumbo as it is often referred to) and wrong pocket/flaps. Some of their coats look great-KT has some very nice ones posted here. Sending a jacket back over the pond for warranty is just plain stupid IMO As I have often said, If I had it to do over, I would have gone G&B right from the start. Westeds are for costume or dress wear....and not for real world conditions. I stand by that comment! Good luck and Welcome!

I would recomend U.S. Wings also...for practicle reasons. I'm from Canada also and I wear my U.S. Wings everyday of the winter, the jacket is very warm and comfortable. Sometimes I wear it with an extra sweather for the colder days, on the milder Winter days I add only a scarf. See this thread for more details on that jacket. indylounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=jacket&action=display&thread=189

Only thing I hope for is my size was right:) I have Danier leather coat thats a 42, fits great, ( I like a little loose since I wear sweaters and such in canada) and my suit jacket is a 44. My wife measureed my chest with a tape last night and I was (as she put it ) around a 42 with my sweater on. So I submitted my form with a 42 on it. Hope it works lol

One more question What type of treatment should I apply to the jacket? I've only seen leather spray here in canada, so I'm thinking of ordering Pecards. I'm assuming I just go with the one for heavier leather? Thanks gain Winky

There are other lighter lotions you can use to clean them, like Letaps in the UK or Pecards Lotion in the US. The predistressed leathers can benefit from some regular pecards, helps semi waterproof them so they don't soak up as much water. Look less dry too.
