Indiana Jones: The Crystal Skulls Revealed On Sci Fi

The Sci Fi Channel has had some really great promotional programming as they partner with companies like Microsoft to present a Mass Effect special, or teaming with Verizon to bring Tin Man to audiences with limited commercial interruption. But coming up this May the channel has outdone themselves. Sunday, May 18th at 9:00pm EST Mystery of the Crystal Skulls with Lester Holt premieres and details the treasure behind the new Indiana Jones film.
The special will follow an airing of the previous three Indy films. Mystery of the Crystal Skulls follows Lester as he searches for the real story of the 13 quartz crystal human skulls. Ancient artifacts of the Mayan and Aztec civilizations, the skulls are rumored to unleash “untold energy” and reveal secrets of mankind’s survival.
I would have loved to get a hold of Lester Holt at the party last night, but I never ran in to him. Long has my family been an Indiana Jones fan, with the films being one of the handful of times my dad will actually sit and watch movies. My father’s aversion to anything on tv that is not Orange County Choppers or professional poker is worth its own examination.
This special is most welcome to myself due to the explanation of the Crystal Skulls. The artifacts that serve as the backbone of the new Indy movie are not well known to me. And I’ve been cautious about my excitement because while I was familiar with the Ark of the Covenant and the Holy Grail, I also had no clue what a Sankara Stone was. So I’ve been worrying about Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull being too much like Temple of Doom. Sure, it’s fun. But the movie is also a bit of a mess. Plus add in a young actor, no Sean Connery and you’ve got even more trouble.
The trailer has at last alleviated my fears, and I’m now ready to see the older Jones on a new adventure. Getting the true legend of the Crystal Skulls in this new special just fuels my geeky fire. While Sci Fi is offering the previous three movies all day on May 18th, I think I’ll just spend time with the DVD’s. I wouldn’t want to miss a moment of Connery and Ford banter. Mystery of the Crystal Skulls with Lester Holt premiers Sunday, May 18th at 9:00pm.
