I just bought my tickets for the 4:15pm showing here in town tomorrow. It says my showing is running in digital.....not sure how much difference that will make or what that even means.

MOTHER OF PEARL!
Sorry, had to get that out. No big spoilers here Harry, so you can read on. That movie is amazing. Edge of your seat, heart-pounding, non-stop adventure. Nothing, nothing was as it seemed. And the ending was such a cliffhanger! Dear Lord, I don't think any film's ending has ever left me so unsatisfied.
My only real qualm about the movie is it's tone. While Curse of the Black Pearl had plenty of humorous daylight scenes to balance out the dark ones, only a third of this film takes place in daylight and/or well-lit areas.
Aside from that, well done all the way around. The effects are amazing, the acting superb, and the characters sound.

Pitfall, that means you have tickets to the alternate "All CGI" version instead! It was an action packed treat, pretty dark and gritty (as Steve pointed out), and entertaining as well. It even had a nod to a classic Indy scene from TOD, which was a bonus. Enjoy, Ken

Well, I've known for a while about the cliffhanger ending even if I don't know exactly how it all goes down.
Did any of you who saw it stay until the end of the credits? I guess there's another scene that's shown.......kind of like what they did with X-Men 3.
I guess we will have to wait until summer of 07 to see how this all plays out. I can't wait to see it today I'm really excited.....especially now that I have an idea of what digital is!

Ah.... I have to wait to Summer of 07!!!! NOT FAIR!! My wife and I loved it. As some of the reviews and people on here have said this one is a bit darker than the first both in look and tone, but......So were Empire and TOD so I can see where the producers might have gotten some inspiration. This has got be one of the biggest WTF cliffhanger moments I've witnessed since the MATRIX RELOADED...and I'm talking about the very end! If anyone didn't wait through the credits to see the final scene I did so without spoiling anything for some who haven't just PM me and I'll let you know what it was. Both this and Superman deserve second viewings and I hope I get the chance before they leave the theater. Oh, and if you haven't seen this yet watch the first one before hand because I did and it helps with both the jokes and the plot.

Just thought I'd pass this along if none of you had heard this yet. Turns out the film made $55 million on Friday alone! It broke Star Wars: Episode 3's opening day record and it's looking like it will break the first Spider-Man's 3-day record over the weekend!

My favorite line...
"You look best in either a dress or no dress at all ... I have no-dress in my cabin". ;D
This reminded me of The Empire Strikes Back in that it was the middle of a trilogy and it ended when you didn't expect/want it too.

Saw it, enjoyed it. Recommend it. Watch the first before watching this one, if you haven't seen it already. I always enjoy re-visiting the character of Jack Sparrow.

I just learned a few details about how the third film begins and what happened to one of the characters in the film. By the way the film broke Spider-Man's three day opening record. It's now the fastest film to hit 100 million and it did it in two days! So far in total it's made $132 million! And now feast your eyes in the teaser poster for "Worlds End!"

I loved the first film but I think I have to give the second one a big thumbs down. The film excelled only when it focused on the characters and in the classic adventure sequences like the escape from prison, the cannibal island and that amazing water wheel fight. Everything else seemed so excessive and unnecessary. It seemed to be less about pirates and adventure and more of just a CGI cartoon. Effects should support the plot and the action as in the previously mentioned sequences and not just exist for the sake of doing effects. Doing an amazing effect just because you can is never a good idea. Good ideas should be executed with the aid of effects. Indiana Jones is the perfect example. The Indy trilogy is filled with effects but they never take center stage over the characters or the plot. Besides, what's wrong with a pirate movie that's actually about pirates, especially if you have Depp as Captain Jack? Do we really need a pirate film with more digital effects and CGI creatures than Star Wars? Am I the only one who thinks this?

I had fun that's all that matters to me and I look forward to the 3rd one. Both my wife and I got our money's worth. As far as the CGI and creatures go this is one of the few times I've watched a film and didn't notice the FX. They blended in perfectly with everything else.....especially Davy Jones. Did you know that only half of his costume was real. The face was half CGI. It's some of the best FX work I've seen in a film ever and at no time was it something that took me out of the film. Davy seemed just as real to me as Jack and the rest of the cast. As far as the storyline goes people have to understand this is one big story split in two. I can't fully judge it as a whole until I see part 3.

My bottom line: I had fun too and that was all that mattered. I loveds it far more than the first. The only thing I liked better about the first is that it seemed to have a snappier script.
ps: Roger Ebert was literally half dead on a hospital bed when this film came out. He has some kind of emergency cancer surgery and it does not look good for him at all. Sucks cuz he's the only critic I agree with most of the time.

Sucks cuz he's the only critic I agree with most of the time. Oh, your kidding! I didn't even hear that! I kept waiting for him to post his review of this because he didn't like the first one. I never knew he was sick. First Siskel and now Ebert. Regardless of how I feel about his reviews if we loose him it's the end of an era as far as movie reviewers go.

Unless it's the Fischer Price digital that tone has introduced to us. ;D Cheers, G-MANN I ran the film through the Fischer Price FP DigiCap 2000 and the quality is expectedly that as only the FP DigiCap 2000 can deliver. The thing is, it's so good that it actually shows portions of the third film also. So, without ruining the next film for everyone, no ScreenCaps here. Wife and I saw it today. I liked it. It's definitely the "WTF?" section of the trilogy, though, but leaves no question that another film is coming.
