That would be cool if it came to DVD. I'd love to see the Goose fly again.

Hey that's a great article! It's nice to see the show get some respect for what it really was. It was always put down as a Raiders rip-off but it actually had a character and feel all it's own. Raiders was so popular that critics couldn't seem to see Gold Monkey without looking at it in the light of Raiders. When viewed for what it is, it stands solidly on it's own. I really think it's a lost treasure. Complete series DVD's are available but they're not the official kind. Check the web you'll find them. This is a series that screams for a big screen revival.

I thought the topic was "Tales of the Old Monkey" and that we were back on more IJ 4 info.

Man I loved this show ! I really enjoyed all the characters, even that Nazi spy posing as the island's Dutch reverend, who loved to give "blessing" to the local native girls. And what to say of princess Koji ? *sigh* I'm just about finished watching the complete series ( I have the last two episodes left to watch) I got on ebay. As mentionned it is not the official kind, but a very acceptable quality for watching ( only one episode: Last chance Louie, was a very bad video to DVD copy). I would still love to see an official DVD release to get maximum image and sound quality. I agree ! Besides the occasional "treasure hunt" episode, the series deals with all kinds of stories like: murder mysteries, international espionnage, as well as stories related to the "Flying Tigers" . On a critical note, there is one historical flaw in the series, wich takes place in 1938, in wich Jake is an ex-"Flying Tiger" having flown missions and had arial combat back in 1937. But the "Flying Tigers" actually operated in China in 1941 and 1942 !? Check out this "facts'n tuff" page on Gold Monkey www.goldmonkey.com/infopage.html

I've recently bought another A2 flight jacket (actually last July) on ebay. It is made of a "pre-distressed" hide that looks very "vintage" and cost me only $30 ! I've decided then to make myself a "Jake Cutter's Flying Tigers jacket" by hand-stiching a "blood-chit" on the back. The "blood-chit" (when delivered) was too "clean" and brand-new looking to add to the "aged" jacket. So I distressed it by sandind it on a few areas, and dirtying it by adding shoe polish. Here are some pics... (they are a little bright being taken in sunlight, so the colors look lighter and the distressing (on the blood-chit) is less apparent. But pics taken with the flash did the same thing so... ) All I need now is a tan color "crush cap" !

I thought someone said a while back this was coming out on DVD? Saved by the Bell! Now there's one show that should have had all of it's footage elminated from the face of the Earth. ;D Nice jacket, Stefana. I've always thought it would be cool to own a A-2 jacket like that with pics on the back of a pin-up girl or something you'd see in an old WW2 style movie. It would look all distressed and stuff as well. Right now though all of my "play" money is going toward Indy stuff.

Nice work Stefana! That's a good-lookin jacket. I just love those old A-2 jackets with the blood-chits or the pin-up girls. The nose art done by those flyboys on their warbirds and jackets is just too cool. I've made a few photoshop drawings of pin-up girls over the last month or so similar to the ones seen on these jackets. Maybe I should get some transfer paper and put them onto t-shirts. They also make for a good wallpaper for the laptop screen. ;D This company sells a few different ones www.wingsamerica.com/index.cfm?Fuseaction=Detail&ID=609

I knew you'd like it Havana, as for the hat, I keep looking on ebay and each time I see one of the right color it's always too small for me. I even saw one "Flying Tigers" once, with the insigna on it, but again too small !! I don't think I would actually wear it though, but it would be fun just to have and display. Beats me !! I did buy the "unofficial" DVD version (on ebay again) of a very "watchable" quality. Thanks guys ! Can't wait for the weather to cool down a little, and wear the thing ! That is why a real A2 should have the "single leather backpiece" so pin-up girls can be added without any seam getting in the way of the art.

Man, that trailer just wreaks of "Stephen J. Cannell" row, doesn't it? ;D It's got that "TV series of the 80s feel to it." I keep expecting Magnum to swing around in his Ferrari followed closely by the A-team while K.I.T.T. squeals out from the back of a semi.
Meanwhile Finneus Boggs is still looking to set things right with his sidekick.
Ahh, yes. The memories.
That's interesting that no one's picked it up for syndication or DVD releases, Nicht. I thought for sure TV Land would have run it a few times by now. ::scratches head:: Tales of the Gold Monkey might be a sleeper they're not even aware of and would no doubt sell well from the nostalgia alone.
Hmm......
I'd probably watch it. Especially since I narely saw a single episode when it was on.

TVLand has run the series twice before in a weekend marathon. The show was created and produced by Donald P. Belisario, who also did Magnum PI, Quantum Leap, and Airwolf. All of which are on DVD. The show was produced by Universal. Universal's other 80's shows are on DVD, such as Knight Rider, A-Team, Remington Steele, and even Riptide which wasn't a big hit. Warner Bros. finally released another "failed" one season action show from the 90's, The Adventures of Briscoe County Jr and it out sold projections by a wide margin. Gold Monkey had 22 episodes which is plenty to fill a small one season box set. I just checked Ebay and there are no Gold Monkey bootleg DVDs listed. There are usually at least 10 from multiple sources and that's been going on for years. Maybe Universal is now cracking down on the bootlegs sellers, clearing the market for their own release??? I'd like to believe that.

I wish TV land would show it in syndication, Tone. You are right that trailer does scream of the 80's. Good stuff!
My wife just told me the other day of a website that will allow you to download tv shows from the 80's. I'm gonna have to find out what site it was and check it out.
If anyone happens to catch if they air a marathon again, please let us know. I'd set the recorder or Tivo for that.

I got mine as well. I'm pretty well pleased with it. The quality isn't up to the standards of some other DVD releases from that era but it's still good. From what I understand, the original film masters were destroyed in the big Universal warehouse fire a few years ago. The Gold Monkey DVD's were made from back up tape masters which is why it doesn't look as good as it could have if were done before the film masters were lost! Anyway, this is still a great series for any classic adventure fan to enjoy. Best of all, they haven't made a horribly miscast, awful updated movie version of it ... at least not yet. Hollywood is so desperate for ideas that it probably won't be long until we see Ashton Kutcher as Jake Cutter having wacky adventures while flying around with a CGI dog.

Probably the reason why it took so long to eventually release the DVD set ?
