I tried using a little bit of water and got a lot of discoloration. It was like a couple of drops. I set it to dry and now I have a dalmatian fedora. Any suggestions?

Yes, where is the picture of the dalmation fedora? A couple of drops and the hat is discolored? A couple of drops of water from what? A spray bottle that used to contain cleaner, maybe? Sorry, it's just very hard to believe water alone discolored your hat. Is it possible there was some additional cleaning agent in the bottle or was this by faucet? If it happened by faucet, just run the whole hat under it, maybe. And no, I'm not picking on you. My hat's been a smidge wet before and the only discoloration I saw from it was when I bleached it on purpose. Is it lighter or darker in color? Maybe it's not completely dry yet? Very puzzling.

A couple of drops that I put on my fingers from the tap. It is slightly lighter in color. I will post pics at work. Edit: Okay, here are the pics. Note the areas at the pinch.

Very Strange...............the entire hat looks like a different color than when I sent it off to you. What kind of lighting was the hat in? Flash Photo? Before After Cheers, G-MANN

That's really weird.... maybe your local water supply has a high level of chlorine in it or something. It does help get you on your way to the SOC look, but that may not have been your intention right away. Hopefully some better answers and solutions will surface, Ken

As far as the spots go I've had those on mine as well. I don't believe mine were as big as yours though. I've only used steam and cold tap water on mine since I've had it. The first time I went to use cold tap water on it I did notice that a tiny bit of dye seemed to come off on my hand as I was shaping the hat. I've bashed mine so many times it's not even funny and I've distressed it quite a bit as well so the spots I had are long gone....especially after I added the Fuller's Earth and then removed it with an air compressor.

Tone: I let the hat dry all night.
G-mann: My bathroom has intense white light which contributes to the color washing out. The hat is still as dark as before.
Pitfall: I did notice a little bit of the hat's fibers coming off on my fingers, but it wasn't enough to make me stop.
The only reason that I tried to pinch the hat like this was because I have heard that the hat has been through downpours with little to no effect.

Pitfall: I did notice a little bit of the hat's fibers coming off on my fingers, but it wasn't enough to make me stop. Yeah, mine still does that on occasion. I had the actual dye though on my fingers and not any fibers. It only happened that once though. I never planned on wearing this hat for dress anyway so I really haven't given much thought to some of the spots that have popped up here and there. Most of the time they vanish after awhile anyway. Right now I love the hat just the way it is and I've thought about just getting another Fed. Deluxe someday. I doubt if I'll ever have the cash to get a AB and by the time I do Fedora will have retired. ;D
