And yes, Megan Fox would look great dressed in a Wonder Woman costume. ;D Hmmm...that's funny, I never even stopped to think about what she might look like dressed as wonder woman...or dressed, period. ;D ;D ;D -GCR ;D ;D ;D ;D Yeah, I guess maybe the costume could just be draped over a chair. She doesn't *really* have to be in it. ;D

Blues, who's your favorite Superman? Just curious.... I guess it's Reeve for me because that's who I grew up with. Although, I think the old 60's Superman show was pretty cool and I liked George Reeves.

I was just over at G-Mann's thread about Xena and that made me think about this topic again. Back a few years ago I think Lucy Lawless would have made a great Wonder Woman. In fact Xena reminded me of Wonder Woman in some ways..... As a side not there is a new animated DC film out on the market called "New Frontier" in the movie Lucy does the voice of Wonder Woman.

My answer is not straight forward to give, but does have a final choice.... I grew up with Christopher Reeve as Superman, so I would have been very partial to him until now. It was very unfortunate that he met with the accident and resulting injuries he sustained, and was never able to wear the cape again. Of course, they pretty much killed off that version of the series when they brought in Richard Pryor for comic relief. That was inexcusable, IMO. But... regardless of the circumstances... Reeve's days were done in that role, despite the tragedy that ultimately stole his life. Fast forward to the modern day reboot and new version of Superman we have just seen and with more coming our way. I believe Brandon Routh to be a great choice that not only embodies the look of the character himself, but also honors the look and feel that Christopher Reeve etched in our minds with his rendition. Given his superior build and age, there stands to be as many Superman movies as we like.... as long as people keep going and they don't monkey it up with a goofy sidekick or whatever. The special effects and quality of movie making these days is just unparalled when it comes to the potential for making super hero movies. I don't think they should be dragging all these obscure characters out just to make a buck, but, the biggest sellers certainly deserve their glory. The character of Superman deserves to be seen by all generations and will no doubt be re-made again one day too. So, all that said.... Brandon Routh would be my choice. For the sheer potential this franchise has in front of it, his likeness the role, and the fact that the scripts are only going to get better and better now that they don't have to basically re-tell the character's origin story again. If we could have Christoper Reeve alive and young again with our modern capabilities, who knows? But... that isn't bound to happen. Long answer to a short question, I know. But it wasn't so easily explained without having to come back and fill all of this in afterward. Ken

Yeah, Superman 3 was pretty bad. I enjoyed certain scenes......Even though it didn't make a lick of sense Clark battling Superman was cool.
I liked Routh. I think he did a good job and in some scenes he even sounded like Reeves. I don't know if that was just him or something they "messed with" in post production. It actually sent shivers down my spine a few times.
The film itself I wasn't totally thrilled with. I think they dropped the ball a few times with the storyline. I also felt they "borrowed" way to many things from Reeve's first Superman film.
The only thing I didn't care for about the suit was that the \S/ was a little bit to small for my tastes.
Like I said.....I think Routh was a good choice and there again a relative unknown and that's what I think Wonder Woman needs. I don't think a "big name" star would cut it.

Actually, it was about middle of the road in comparison to the different ones used over the years: www.supermanhomepage.com/movies/movies.php?topic=sr-costume-compareThe borrowing from the first Superman movie was very much intentional. The goal was to re-tell the origin of the character in certain ways, to keep the younger kids up to speed.... and very much honor that series so as not to step on the toes of all the would be haters of a new Superman franchise. Given the tight rope they had to walk, I think the movie came out just great. Personally, I would have made some changes in the script as well, but that's also true for all the Indy and Star Wars movies. Unfortunately, they never seem to ask my opinion on such matters. All in all, I think Brandon Routh is a great choice for the role because he brings in the spirit of yesterday and something fresh for the future. Ken

I guess this kind of fits in with both topics. I've been hearing rumors online now for quite a while that they're making a "Justice League" movie. Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman are all three in the film.
Early on it was assumed that this was going to be the "team-up" film that Routh and Bale had in their contracts as part of the deal they made when they signed up for the films. Turns out this isn't it. The "Superman Vs Batman" movie is still in the works and will most likely star Routh and Bale.
It looks like they're are going to re-cast Superman and Batman for the Justice League film.
As far as Wonder Woman goes she might just start out in this film and then branch off into her own movie. So whoever they cast for this film could be the one they use for the stand alone film.
As far as Superman Returns goes I understood what Singer was trying to do with the film. He did an excellent job of retaining the spirit of the Donner film and making it easy for the new folks to understand.
I guess I just think he laid it on a little to thick. I'd been reading the Superman books just prior to the film coming out and I just think the missed an opportunity for some really good stories by "connecting" Returns with the "Donnerverse".
Don't get me wrong. I think I got my money's worth when I saw it in the theater and I'll gladly sit and watch the film when I get the chance. I just watch it though and can't help but think how much better this could have been with a few changes and a bigger threat.
Oh, and I do think Spacey did a good job as Lex. I just don't think they gave him much to work with. I think he nailed the Lex from the books in the scene where he stabs Superman with the kryptonite.

I really don't get the whole idea of making a Superman vs. Batman movie anyway. I mean..
1. They are both good guys.
2. Superman is the most powerful of all the super heroes, while Batman has no powers at all.
It wouldn't be much of a fight would it? I would stand as good a chance against Superman as Batman would..... meaning we would both be flicked into space with his little toe.
As far as a justice league movie and recasting for it.... yikes. What a BAD move that would be, IMO. The nest way to dilute a character is to have multiple versions of him/her floating around at the same time. All you do is divide your own audience.
I guess what the Superman and Wonder Woman casting thing have the most in common here is, they both represent a reboot after many years off (in movies for Superman anyway). Since Wonder Woman is an obviously smaller draw and Linda Carter is still alive.... there is no need to tread lightly at all. They can go whichever way they choose when casting. With Superman, the risk was alienating the core audience and general population that still held the memory of Christopher Reeve fresh in their minds.
They got that one right. I honestly expect Wonder Woman to come off like a third rate deal in the vein of Ghost Rider, Dare Devil, etc.... Though, it would be nice to something better made than that crap.

Actually, Batman's gone "toe to toe" with Superman on a few occasions......usually when Supes is being controlled by another villain. In fact Batman took out the whole JLA in one story. Well, he didn't but it was his "protocols" the villain used against the team. Batman had a "back up" plan for each of the heroes encase any or them went rogue. The villain found these and used them. Of course they good guys won but Superman and the rest of the team were pretty pi$$ed that Bruce had these plans to begin with so they kicked him off the team. ;D Batman, in the books , has always been written as a master strategist and a master of most forms of combat. Usually, no matter who you are, Batman is two steps ahead of you when you get into a fight with him. Clark is smart but he doesn't have that "edge" that Bruce has. Bruce will to do whatever it takes to get the job done and Clark tends to "play by the rules"...Which is a weakness in combat and I don't care how strong you are. Of course......what's Superman's biggest weakness? Kryptonite. What's Bruce got a handful of that he keeps in the Batcave? Kryptonite. ;D So it's not as clear cut as one thinks as far as brawl between them goes. I think that title of the film is very misleading. I think the storyline has something to do with Clark being lead to believe that Bruce crossed the line and killed someone. So Clark goes after him. I think half-way through the film they team-up, naturally. I agree about having multiple actors playing the same role in different films at the same time. I don't remember how old I was but I remember being utterly confused when Roger Moore had a Bond film out at the same time Connery's last Bond film (Never Say Never Again) was released. I remember thinking to myself Moore's film was the legit one because I didn't remember Connery as Bond because his movies were out before I was born. Anyway, that's as good of a comparison I could come up with. ;D I agree with you and I *hope* it's not the case. Of course I've also heard other reports that say the JLA movie is going to be all realistic CGI animation. I think Wonder Woman as a character has some potential and could be as big as Superman and Batman. That's IF they get the right director, actress and script.

I don't care about some goofball plot that makes it seem as thought it could happen. It could never happen.
The two characters are not in the same universe when it comes to abilities. Superman has one physical weakness, and unless Batman is carrying Kryptonite coated Batarangs... it ain't happening.
Sure, it's all fiction. But even fiction has to fall within the boundaries set forth by the characters. Batman is just a regular man with some cool gadgets and combat training, period. Any story written otherwise is not worth reading.

Ken,
Did you ever read The Dark Knight Returns? That had BM against Supes and it worked PERFECTLY. Nothing screwball about that plot. Brilliant stuff. Neither the 1st Batman movie or Batman Returns even came close. IMO.

Batman doesn't need to coat any of his weapons with Kryptonite. All Bruce needs is a small amount to do the job. What he used in the books was the Kryptonite ring he stole from Luthor who wore it while he was President.
I think if Luthor and a couple of his goons (who by the way are all human) can nearly kill Clark in Superman Returns it's pretty clear Batman would be able to stand his ground against Superman in the books or movies.
These are all fictional characters so things can be altered to fit the writers needs. So if the writer wants Bruce to win then they're going to come up with a way to do it. What they've done in the books isn't something out of "left field" either when it comes to these two characters facing off. I've read the stories and they make it plausible. Even with Clark weakened by the Kryptonite Bruce nearly shattered every bone in his hand punching him and that was acknowledged in the book. To be honest it wasn't easy and Bruce was only able to slow Clark to a point where he could talk some sense into him. Yes, Clark could have killed him.
As far as these comic book characters go. The mandate for how they behave and what they can and can't do is set by the writers. These books are their home. So they can do whatever they want with these characters in the other forms of media they appear in but if it's not directly lifted from the "source material" I don't acknowledge it as part of the characters continuity.
Of course it's the reverse with the Indy and SW franchise. Unless otherwise approved by Lucas nothing that happens in the other forms of media such as the books is "official" to the characters canon unless stated as such.
The Crystal Skull plot for Indy 4 comes to mind. Of course we don't know how it's being used yet but I'm willing to bet the film won't acknowledge the McCoy books.

Yeah, the Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller is a perfect example. I don't know why I didn't think of that. Oh, and I don't know how many people are aware of this but Superman's got another weakness besides Kryptonite.......it's Magic. Superman can be harmed just like anyone else when it comes to beings with magic based powers. I know it sounds a little hokey and something they recently made up but it's been a part of the characters continuity since the Silver Age. One of Superman's most famous "magic based" villains is an imp from the Fifth Dimension......Mr. Mxyzptlk. So, granted in a film it would be odd , it is possible for a normal human to kill Superman by using magic.

Saying he had weapons coated in Kryptonite was a random example as we all know any amount of it can kill him. You actually made my point with that.... it's the Kryptonite that does it, not the man. Lex Luthor manages to lure him in with some plot to destroy people or parts of the earth, but it's always the Kryptonite that puts him in danger. Batman has no more power than you or I do, so to think that his cunning or gadgets would help is just ridiculous. I think of the old movie where they turned Godzilla against King Kong. It's hilarious to do that since in their own realities, Kong was 20-25 tall and had to climb buildings, where buildings came up to Godzilla's knees in most movies. Fiction? Yes. Still, they could have just created a new character for them to fight that matched each other's size/strength.
I have never read any story that pits Superman vs. Batman against each other because I think it goes against all common sense. The basic rules should always apply to these characters and the stories they put them in: powers, weakness, time frame, origin story, etc... When new writers start to deviate from those, it's not something I'm interested in because it might as well be a new character.
That being said, no... I don't recognize Superman as having a weakness to magic as it's not part of his time honored story. Sure, it's fiction and can be changed at will. But, just like people don't care for how a certain writer moves the plotline (Spiderman revealing his identity, Superman dying, Capt. America dying, etc...), I don't care for or recognize any situation where a guy dressed as a bat can over power Superman without using Kryptonite. I really like Batman and always have, but he doesn't stand a chance against Spiderman either because he has no super powers like Spidey does. Granted, he would stand a far better chance against Spiderman based on the significantly lower level of strength he has versus Superman. Superman could throw the Hulk into space with one hand, so how does a man with Bat ropes compare to that level of power?
Sure, tomorrow they could write yet another version of each of these characters and change their powers yet again. But, I'm not interested in reading or watching fiction layered upon fiction like that. What's next Indy versus Lara Croft in a race to find some treasure?
