As some of you know, I recently ordered a blank journal from Magnoli, to try and make a Grail diary replica...or some of it. I got the sheepskin journal with aged cover and pages. I received it last Friday and I am very pleased with the result of cover's aging. (with worn out corners!) It really looks like the Grail diary... As for the pages' aging...it seems to be done very quickly with spots made with some kind of fluid srayed on the pages, vertically on either the right or left side or in the center. But when the pages will be filled-in with text and illustrations, the spots will only be visible on the blank areas. I know as I already tried to reproduce 2 pages of the Grail diary, a page spread we see more than once in the movie: The stained-glass window in Venice...Besides the unintentional ink spots on the right page (in the vertical writing) I think the pages are well reproduced...What do you guys think ?

Wow, that's some awesome work, Stef!!! Out of curiousity, how much did the blank journal set you back? I'm thinking that I'll probably get one someday and try to reproduce the writing and sketches myself, along with printing out the needed inserts. Anyways, swell job on replicating those diary pages! -GCR

You mean, how much does it cost ? There are different leather hides journals available. The sheepskin one is $50 brand new, but... There are many versions of each journal available: -brand new -brand new cover with pre-aged pages -pre-aged cover with new pages -pre-aged cover and pages Each pre-aging process costs aditional $. At Magnoli Clothier under "accesories" in the categories section of the catalog... Direct link to the journal page: magnolic.ipower.com/catalog/index.php?cPath=22&osCsid=82cda422c4ab5551b345de654a9a8ec2But it seems the "catalog" section is unavailable right now !? Why, thanks !

Looks like your off to a great start. The 2 pages you've done look terrific. I have had to sideline my diary for another week or so, since I managed to pick up a Gobler Idol, but as soon as i recover I will be starting on mine. Did you find any good referances for insert locations? Also what is the diary in the film, Cow or Sheep? Can't wait to see more Stef.

Thanks Belloq ! Nope ! And I have no clue for actual page order either. Those two pages I placed approximately after viewing the sequence where Indy flips thru the diary in the Venice library and opens it showing that page spread. I have no idea ?! I selected the sheepskin cover only because it cost less than the cowhide cover. That page spread I did as a test. It will be a litle while before I can actually work on my replica as I am now busy preparing for next week's trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. (for a third time) While there, I might get to "explore" another Mayan site...If so, I'll sure be on the look-out for some hidden Crystal Skull.

I am by no means an expert on Grail Diarys but the 2 pages that you have done look mighty fine to me. Cheers, G-MANN

How did you transfer the images? Tracing paper? Certainly not by hand? Where id did you get the images from?

Thanks, I am ! I am still working on it, but I'm running out of pages to reproduce (from the one I have found on-line) so I have to "improvise" and make new ones...still I won't be able to completely fill-up the journal. I'm also trying to add more inserts to occupy blank pages. I'll post pics soon. No tracing paper...by hand. But I do have a trick of my own to exactly reproduce the drawings...but not the handwritting unfortunately. Some images are pasted though (as they should be ) the image on the 3rd from last picture (crucifiction). And the two pages on the last pic. (you can see the different colored paper used for the images) If you look closely on the crucifiction image in the movie (best viewed when Indy flips thru the diary when he receives it) the entire page is pasted, you can actually see the difference in paper color...
