I made a Sankara stone using super sculpey. The sculpt was done on a small plastic bottle allowing me to make the walls about 3/4" thick. I added scratches and damages with a variety of sticks, brushes and wire. The base for the 3 lines and some bigger scars was made with a block of cork broken in half, I also gave the entire surface a treatment with the cork. When the sculpt was finished I removed the bottle and did some final tweaking with the overall shape, then it was time for the oven. 120C° / 248F° for 10 minutes. When it had cooled down I sanded it until it had the smooth surface I was aiming at finnishing the sanding of with fine-grade water sanding. The scratches that makes the 3 lines was added using a pocket knife. Same as above only really BIG. K, Those are truly awesome looking! I agree with John, you could put some extra money in your pocket by making and selling these! Very nice work man. Ken

Ya know I had a similar idea only I was going to use my Kidney Stones but it didn't work out the way I planned.

Awesome job K! They look fantastic. I tried making one from clay and it crumbled into a million pieces as it dried. I came across Sculpey but never tried it. Seeing your success I won't hesitate to use it.

Thanks guys. I'm planning to make a small run, maybe 10 stones with light and 10 without. All cast from this one. I'll let you know when things start to happen.
Cheers, Kim
PS: as you can see from my late reply, I'm working my ... of at the moment. Hopefully things will quit down soon.

Sign me up for one!
Whether I want it with or without light depends on the prices (sigh, I am looking forward to finishing my study and getting a real job).
If you need any leatherwork done - maybe we can trade? I can make most things - except from shoes.

I can make that. Heck, I am planning to make one, after the very same pattern, for myself. Making two would be no problem at all. Compared to some of the medieval bags and pouches I have made for people a holster like that is a walk in the park. I can also make gunbelts, bagstraps and (after som experimenting i guess) whipholders. I am also thinking about making a small cylindrical leather case, filled with Hovitos' "poison" darts. Maybe decorated with carvings, painted patterns, beeds and feathers. I can also make a nice cylindrical map-case for your maps. /Jakob

Jeep, I think the Hovitos dart holder, and map holder are great ideas for you. The whip holder is such a simple design... you could make it in your sleep, with the experience you have. With those kind of unique offerings, plus the belts, holsters, etc... you could make some extra money, and have fun working on the stuff too. Just a thought, as you have probably already seen the possibilities. Ken

does this count only for K on the run or could you make them and sell them to other forum members? I'll just think it over. I have been thinking about making Indy gear, props and related/inspirered items in leather, for sale, for some time now. My main problem is finding the time to do it. The solution may be to finish small quantities of each item and put them up for sale - instead of taking orders which I might not get the time to fulfill within an acceptable period of time. If I decide to do it, I'll make a thread in the vendor sections here and maybe on COW. And now; back to Kim and his' excellent sankara-stone /Jakob

indianadirk, I'm not sure yet, I have to make some test stones to know how much the materials will cost. I don't plane to sculpt to more stones so all stones will be identical.
Cheers, Kim

Hey K,
It has been about a month, any word on how this project is going for you. I don't know about anyone else but I am still interested in one of these.
Cheers, G-MANN

The summer holidays just around the corner and my job is going crazy with stuff that has to be finished before the holidays. But fear not friends, the initial steps has been taken and things is in motion. The plan to make a stone that looks like the regular ones but also has a light function it probably not going to work. Unless I find some fantastic material that has just the right properties I'll have to go with the regular stone look and no light. I'm sorry I can't set any date on the project.
Regards Kim

What, you're not a miracle worker Kim? You mean you can't insert a self powering light source into a rock? What kind of replicator do you think you are anyway? I'm kidding, of course. The stones look great as they are, and I know you will sell a ton (pun intended) of them, with or without a light inside. Ken

Maybe I need more stones Thanks Jweaver

Here are some pics of my K on the Run sankara stone. It is cast in solid ureol (plastic) and is painted and finished by hand - except for the weight it looks and feels like a real stone! Photo taken straight on Photo taken a little from above The sankara together with my WPG bag (with homemade backstrap) and my umm.... nail cleaner It is, by my opinion, the best sankara stone replica I have ever seen. /Jakob
