OK, at John's request, here's some pics of my Raiders Spec jacket. The first thing I noticed when I got it, were the lack of "Handemade By British Craftsmen" and "Union Jack" labels. Instead, the collar label read, "Handemade By Craftsmen." The lambskin was noticably thinner than the standard lambskin. It has proved to be plenty tough enough, however, for most urban adventures. The quality was also not as consisent as the standard jacket. It has areas that are very smooth, and others that are quite grainy. By comparison, my standard lambskin is smooth all over. This is not a big deal, unless maybe you are one of those stitch nazis. My 'Spec' jacket has natutally distressed very easily. I received it at the end of November and have worn it just about every day. It has been in some monsoon rain storms and a couple blizzards. The only thing I ever did for distressing, was to wad it up into a ball and throw it into a corner when it was wet, and then left it there until it was dry. I did have Mrs. Blooze remove the shoulder pads. They really weren't noticable, but when the leather started to crease, it creased around the shoulder pads, leaving a triangle shaped design on each shoulder. OK, Now for the pics. First a front view Shoulder stitching Now some comparison pics between a standard ROTLA, and the ROTLA Special. The standard jacket is on top in all photos except for the pocket pic. In that one the Special is on the right and the standard is on the left. Both jackets are size 44R. The standard was a dark brown variety. I gave the standard jacket a hot water treatment,.......and it shrunk considerably. The Special jacket body may have been cut a little longer than the standard initially, but it wasn't much longer. The sleeves were almost of identical length prior to the standard getting the hot water treatment. The difference you see in size in the pics, is almost entirely from the hot water treatment. These jackets were very comparable in size when they were new. Now what's my verdict? I like the leather on the standard jacket better, but I love the cut of the ROTLA Special. The Special is a winner, you can't go wrong with it. I would love to get the ROLTA Special in Peter's new goat or horse.

Rick,
Thanks a lot for taking the time to take those pictures and post them.
Both are nice looking jackets but I like the smaller pockets on the Raiders Special better.
Thanks again, John

Blooze, Great looking jackets! I really like the color and grain of the leather of the Special Offer jacket, and like John, I prefer the smaller pockets as well. But both jackets look great! Pictures like these (along with pics of Vivli's great new Wested HH) just make me want another Wested even more. Thanks for posting. -GCR

That looks really good! In fact, I think both your jackets look amazing.
What really interests me is that when I saw the ROTLA special offer jackets, they had heck of a shine to them that I wasn't too keen on, but your jacket seems to have avoided that. And without that, it looks great! There seems to be no obvious difference in quality between the two jackets shown there, just a slight difference of colour and cut, which shows what a bargain the special offer jacket is!
It looks great, congratulations!

Tron - That is a great jacket, and an excellent looking fedora as well! Is that an Akubra? And have you done anything special to your jacket to give it more of a nice, worn look? -GCR

Thanks GCR. The hat is a Federation regular. The jacket received hot water followed a couple of days later with light sanding to natural wear points alternated with rubbing alcohol to same areas. I also slept in it a couple of nights to get it just right. My wife knew I was crazy when she married me. Tron

Yeah, I'm just finding it to be a bit too heavy for my liking. I want something thinner.

OK here goes. My digital camera went on the blink so this pic is with a phone camera. Now for my only beef with the jacket, and it's not really that big of a deal, it's just that I know it is there. At the bottom of the right sleeve, the leather above the seam is very grainy and a little darker than the rest of the jacket. It'e about 6"-8" square. Most people would never even notice it, but being a gearhead..... It's difficult to see in the pic, and it isn't enough to keep me from wearing the jacket every day. It's still a beauty.

Man, you got that right, Blooze! I can't see a thing! Still, I know how it can be, finding those little, miniscule things that can drive ya nuts! ;D You got yourself a great looking jacket though, regardless of any strange square-shaped spots that don't really show up on camera. ;D -GCR

I'm one of the noobs around here, but thanks to the wonderful information you guys have provided, I went ahead and ordered my ROTLA special. I took a chance and ordered one "off the rack" and it fits great. Also, I got it super fast. I live in Florida and I got it in less than a week. Woo-hoo, just in time for the cold spell we are having.
