I just wanted to share a couple of pics with you of the US Wings Jacket that I received from Profwex. I have seen quite a few US Wings jackets and this one is the best I've seen yet. It could be because it is older and also has a Neil Cooper label as well as US Wings. It may be too grainy for some folks but I really like the texture. It's also a tough as nails jacket even though it is Lambskin. I would like to point out that the jacket does NOT have the typical US Wings "RAZOR ZIPPER". If you know any of the history of this jacket would you please share it with us Wex? CLOSE UPS Many, many Thanks Prof. G-MANN

Hey G-Mann, I'm happy to see that the jacket fits you. I bought that jacket about a year ago and wore it almost everyday, even in the rain. the texture on the jacket wasn't so pronounced when I first bought it. I threw it in the dryer one day after It got drenched. when I took it out of the dryer the texture was what you see today. What I always loved about the jacket was how it distressed and the color. well thats the history of the jacket as I know it. I'm glad you like it. a jacket like that can be worn when your working on your car or something. it is tough as nails for a lamb. a few extra pics. Sincerely, Prof.Wex

John, this photo of you is a great one overall... but it also shows how well worn, and cool this jacket looks: That jacket looks like the one the LC jacket wishes it was! It looks like a nice fitting old friend of a jacket, and that's a winner in my book! The leather in this photo of the back even gives off a nice Raiders quality to it too: I'm glad you and Prof. Wex were able to strike a deal of sorts, and also happy to see that this jacket looks so good on you. Congrats to both you fellas and some very nice photos too, Ken

That U.S. Wings is easily one of the best looking examples I have ever seen. I really like the look of the grain in the leather as well as the natural distressing. That's the type of Wings jacket I would LOVE to have! And the best part is that it looks like it was made for you, because the fit looks dead on, G-MANN! Looks great with the black rectangular loops / sliders / dealies as well! -GCR

If you look close, KT....GMann lucked out, and has a better zipper than the type we got with our Wings jackets. The ones on ours are dangerous. 'Blues

Thanks everyone I really like the texture of this jacket. Ken I think you hit the nail on the head, this is what the LC jacket should have been. KT, I have no idea what the deal is with the newer Death Zippers is on the Wings jackets. I'm just glad this jacket does not have one. Griff, The fit is excellent, as long as I don't gain ANY weight. ;D Agent5, The collection is now complete. Here is one more outdoor pic of the jacket. Cheers, G-MANN

Hey G-Mann,
Yeah, I bought that jacket new, but the sales lady told me that it was the last one of its kind. Her reasons, one: it was the only small they had at the time, reason two: because it was a cooper. also I never could figure out what the lining was made of. It does have a rather stiff lining.
Sincerely, Prof.Wex

Prof. Wex, The label says 100% Nylon Lining (you can see the label in the original post). They must have had this jacket sitting around for quite a while because it is nothing like the ones I bought from them, which were also all Lambskin. As you stated, the lining is really stiff. The leather was too, so I applied numerous coatings of Pecards. Now I have been rubbing the jacket down with a terrycloth towel and weaing the crap out of it. The leather is softening up quite a bit. Anyhow, I love the jacket. Thanks again G-MANN

I really love the texture of that jacket. I think it gives it loads of character. I had an old Avirex A2 in lambskin with a similar texture.

Just an update: I have Pecarded the heck out of the Jacket and it has really softened up. Unfortunately my experiments to soften up the lining have failed So......... I am having the jacket relined for $60.00 at a local tailor and should have it back next Friday. I have the feeling that when I get it back it is going to get plenty plenty of use. Cheers, G-MANN

So what kind of lining are you having put in it? $60 isn't bad.....for something like that I would have thought it cost more.

Liner replacement will be made of a thin Rayon a bit lighter color than the norm. Kind of a coffee with cream color. Much, much softer. I expect the jacket to lose about 1/4 of it's weight due to the change.
I have had leather jackets for about 37 years and have never had a lining this stiff. Maybe I could have the tailor make a tent from it. ;D
Cheers, G-MANN

Hey G-MANN, Sorry to hear that the attempts at getting the lining to soften up didn't work for you. However, getting the jacket re-lined sure does sound like good news. Ever since you first posted pics of this jacket, I have been REALLY liking the color and texture of that leather. It'd be a shame to have something like the lining take away from a jacket that looks that great. Glad to hear that won't be the case anymore. I can't wait to see the pics once you get it back. Did you ask the tailor to keep and/or re-apply all the old labels from the original liner? That, and when are you going camping with that new tent? ;D -GCR

Thanks for the Idea Griff As far as the camping.....I'm more of a Best Western Hotel guy these days ;D Cheers, G-MANN

Well, I just got the jacket back and this liner is MUCH better I realize a darker color might have been better but I'm still very happy with it. Cheers, G-MANN

NICE!!! I actually like the color of that lining a LOT! I think contrasts nicely with the color of the leather and looks great! That's extra cool that they were able to re-apply the original tags to the new lining as well! I'd say that's $60 bucks VERY well spent! -GCR

Hey G-Mann, Glad to see you got rid of that stiff lining , So how does it feel when you wear it now, is it lighter? I would love to see the jacket opened up to get a better look at the new lining. from what I can see the color looks great. Sincerely, Prof.Wex

That jacket just sucks in every possible way and it's too long for a short guy like you John. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that outworn leather thing and send it my way ;D
Kidding asside: all these new jacket threads make me go nuts here! AWESOME jacket my friend! To see what you've made of it is just fantastic and it sure as hell looks great on you. I love when people take it upon themselves and make a highly unique and s.a. piece of gear from something that was so so.
Kind of like like taking one of these crappy vintage beaver hats from the 30's and getting rid of the original bound brim, before it's ripped appart and turned into an Indy Fedora...*ducks as the first load of stones come flying* ;D
Congrats,
Marc
