Thinking about getting the wested jacket or similar, just have a few questions.
Is the jacket suitable for all seasons apart from extreme weather conditions? What are your user experiences, is it ok for the hotter weather? I ask as summer is approaching and it looks like here in Europe it is going to be one of those wiered of season tempreatures judging by the current weather.
Also is their a version available without the adjustable straps with a more modern back?
thanks

vtrader, First off, Welcome to the Lounge. The Indy Jackets that are available are more like a leather Windbreaker. Suitable for warmer not colder weather. The US Wings is the heaviest and can be worn in colder temps. Also, If you just want somthing close to Indy's jacket try looking into the A-2 jacket. Cheers, G-MANN

Hi, I live in europe and I wear a goatskin Wested - I used to wear a lambskin. I find they are more or less 3-season jackets. When it's really hot in mid summer, I don't wear the wested except when it cools off in the night. I have worn it in winter with a thick pullover and a scarf and long-johns under my jeans. It's not the ideal winter jacket but it's passable. Just out of interest, what have you got against the back-panel and side straps?

Thanks for the replys.
I do not have anything against the back-panel and side straps, I am just looking for something that will last in terms of style for several years. I suppose in some pictures that those strapes from the back make the jacket look a bit too 80's. Or it could be just down to the build of the person wearing.

You may be talking to the converted here!
It's lasted 25 years so most of us don't have an issues with it. It's not stonkingly fashionable or scarily unfashionable.
Wested will do it with any details you like, there are a few different 'attempts' people have tried over the years in the store. ie without patch pockets, with a manderin collar, with buttons....
Other makers may also let you make your own mods.
BUT
The straps and the pleats are an inportant part of waht the jacket looks like, without that detail IMO it's not an Indy jacket why not get something else instead?

First off, welcome. Secondly, I have to agree with KT as far as just getting another jacket goes. I spent years and years, before I had ever heard of Wested, roaming through leather stores, looking for a jacket like Indy's. I found a few here and there that were similar, but (obviously) I never found a "true" Indy jacket. What's the point of buying a Wested Indy jacket if an Indy jacket isn't really what you want? There are plenty of very nice, brown leather jackets in similar but more modern styles out there. If you're gonna buy a Wested, why not get the jacket that made them famous? As for the style, I never considered the Indy jacket an "80's" style, but more of a 1980's interpretation of a classic 30's style. After all, the type of jacket Indy wears, while not exact to any particular vintage pattern, is very similar to the type of leather jackets sold back in the 1930's. So I guess my point is, when I look to categorize the Wested (or any Indy jacket) by style, I always think more in terms of 1930's style, rather than 1980's. After all, Indy's jacket wasn't a "Member's Only". ;D -GCR

Thanks guys. OK I've ordered. For those who ordered via wested , did you get an email confirmation of the order instantly or near enough, also how long did it take for a custom sized jacket. I ask because when I placed the order I got the white page with the order form details after entering the details, but then my browser died.

You might want to phone and confirm, just to make sure your order did actually go through. Jackets usually take 4 weeks to be made.
