I've always loved the way the Temple of Doom jacket looked since I was a kid. The fit, the wrinkled sleeves, the distression...all of it. Since then I've primarily been a Raiders guy but the recent connection of the Terry Leonard / Raiders stunt jacket to the TOD jacket had me looking hard at the TOD jacket again.
As some of you may know I did a thorough spec sheet of the Raiders jacket last year which unfortunatly became misunderstood as gospel, when in fact, it was simply my interpritation of the jacket after years of study which had come together shortly after the release of the dvd's. My recent study of the TOD jacket had me wanting to do a spec sheet for it but PLaton beat me to the punch on COW. He did a decent job but I thought it was lacking the overall detail such a post needed to be fully explanitory.
The past couple of nights I put in some time to study his list and compare it to the screen caps myself. A few things needed to be changed and I added all the necessary screen caps as well as comentary about the parts of the jacket. My intention is not to steal any of Platon's glory, but to do right what he should have done to begin with.
NONE of this is gospel and is completely subject to change if any of you see anything wrong or anything I may have overlooked or especially if any of you have better reference shots. Just show us the proof and I'll go ahead and make the necessary changes. I did do the homework and it all looks good to me for a person of my relative size. I will be writing Noel Howard to ask if he would be so kind as to provide us with measurements off his jacket. For once we may have a gentleman who will be able to give us some solid evidence. I just hope he doesn't think we're up to something and not want to cooperate. He's always been a very open gentleman to all in our community, but still...say a prayer.
So, let me know what you think.

LEATHER
It's not known exactly which type of leather was used to make the TOD jacket but it is safe to say it was most likely lambskin as the other film jackets were. If ordering from Wested then you have several options. I'd stick with the authentic lamb but you also have the darkbrown lamb and the new distressed lambskin offering as well as several other leathers, such as cowhide or even horsehide. U.S.Wings offers their 'Indy Jones' jacket in goat and cowhide. It's not yet known if Todd will want to jump into the TOD jacket mix, but it would be a blessing if he did.
Nomatter which one you choose, the TOD jacket was heavily distressed so it will not look 100% out of the bag, you either have to wear it for life or use one of the many available distressing techniques to get it to your liking.
PATTERN
The TOD seemed to have more of a fitted look than the other 2 Indy jackets. This was perhaps due to Fords peak physical condition at this time but if you're going for the look then you will most likely want to stick to a thinner patterned fit, such as the 80's style pattern Wested offers. Wested, however, did not do the TOD jackets although they do a replica of it, it will not have the correct side vent and pleat configuration as the screen used TOD jacket. It will instead be more like the Last Crusade jacket configuration.
U.S. Wings does an 'Indy Jones' jacket which best resembles the TOD jacket we see on screen, but as with Wested, there are many noticeable flaws.
Below are pics of the jacket to illustrate some of the properties the jacket displays when worn. You can see how it looks when stretched a bit and also how the shoulders and back ride up when the arms are raised.
LINING
The lining in the TOD jacket was dark brown in color. It's not known exactly what type of material was used for the lining, but cotton was used on the other film jackets and is a logical, not to mention comfortable choice. In the bottom pic below you can see his the difference in the color of the lining compared to the holster.
ZIPPER
The zipper used appears to be an 8 guage nickel zip with a YKK zipper pull which is fairly large for this jacket. You will notice the zipper does not extend all the way to the bottom of the jacket, but stops about 1 inch or so from it.
LEATHER FACING ON THE ZIPPER
There is NO leather facing on the zipper which helps maintain the drape of the leather on the front of the jacket. Below you can see the leather facing on the bottom back interior of the jacket.
STORM FLAP
The storm flap appears to be 1.5 inches in width, which seems standard on all the Indy movie jackets. Where the top edge of the storm flap on the Raiders jacket is very rounded, the TOD jacket has the top edge of the storm flap squared off.
COLLAR STAND
The TOD jacket comes with a leather collar stand which can be seen in the pic below.
COLLAR
The collar on the TOD jacket does not look tapered and retains the same width all the way around. The tips of the collars are much like the Raiders hero jacket with the right side being slightly more pointed with only a small, round tip and the left side with a more rounded tip. The left side of the collar that meets the top of the storm flap should extend almost to the edge of the collar or about .75 inches from the outer edge of the storm flap. The right side should also match the same length so that one dies not hang down more than the other.
POCKETS
The pockets on the TOD are much smaller and squared off in size than the other 2 Indy jackets and is a failry easy way to spot a TOD jacket. The flaps are slightly scalloped and almost make up half the pocket size and the corners are very squared off. There are also side handwarmer pockets which you see him use in the film.

Right Pocket
Below is a shot with the flap tucked into the pocket.
SIDE STRAP BUCKLES
The side strap hardware used on the screen used TOD jacket were black, rectangular, one-piece, 2-pronged buckles which had the prongs going straight into the leather straps. If I were to order a replica TOD jacket I don't think I'd want to poke holes in it which may cause it to tear in the future so I would accept two other simple choices. You can substitute the pronged buckle for a single, rectangular slide style buckle or a 2-piece, rectangular buckles as documented on the Raiders stunt jacket.
ACTION PLEATS / SIDE VENTS
The back pleats on the TOD jacket seem to be the same as on the Raiders jacket at 1.5 inches but the great difference in the TOD and the other 2 jackets is in it's side construction, which makes different use of the pleat. The Raiders jacket has the pleat end where the side strap is located but the TOD jacket extends the pleat all the way down the side of the body to the bottom of the jacket and sewn with the back panel to make the side vent. The side vent opening is at 2 inches in length.
The side vent below is of a Raiders jacket. Notice the differences in the vents.
SHOULDER SEAM / YOKE SEAM
The yoke is the easiest way to discern a TOD jacket from the others. The yoke is very large compared to the other 2 Indy jackets. The yoke comes off the shoulder seam and takes up a little more than 1/4 of the back of the jacket. The shoulder seam on the TOD jacket seems to fall off the back of the shoulder a bit as you can see in the pics below.
The distance of yoke off the arm seam appears to be about 5 inches, which would make the distance from the center, top back seam to the center of the bottom yoke seam about 7 inches. The yoke seam should also extend all the way across the back panel and meet the arm seam.
BACK PANEL
The back panel on the TOD jacket is slightly tapered down. It's not so noticeable unless the back panel is being stretched a bit as can be seen in the film a few times. Even then it's hard to make out but a screen used jacket was useful in illustrating this.
INSIDE POCKET
We never see the inside of the TOD jacket so it is entirely up to you if you want to include one. If you do then you want to make certain you ask for a slit pocket which uses less of a leather facing to ensure the proper drape in the front of the jacket.
UNDERARM GUSSETS / SLEEVE CIRCUMFRENCE
It's hard to tell if there were any gussets used on the TOD jackets but the Raiders stunt jackets which are similar in design had a small, 2-piece underarm gusset. The sleeves on the TOD jacket are also another easy way to spot the jacket among the rest. Besides being nicely distressed and wrinkled, the arms appear to be a little more tightly fitted than the other jackets. They are most certainly tapered as well.
As some of you may know I did a thorough spec sheet of the Raiders jacket last year which unfortunatly became misunderstood as gospel, when in fact, it was simply my interpritation of the jacket after years of study which had come together shortly after the release of the dvd's.
