I have recently decided on getting a pair of Magnoli's Adventure boots over the Alden's because of the steel shank hurting my instep. I have one tiny little problem though...whether or not to get the white stiching or the matching stiching on the moc toes. I have narrowed down the colors to either the Saddle Tan or the Maghony. So I ask you the members of the Lounge to help me decide which one is more accurate to Indy's Boots; white or matching and the color.

WHITE!!! Also, to my eyes, the darker brown the boots are, the more accurate they are.

Depends on what you will use the boots for. If you're going to do any hiking, then get the rugged soles.

I will be doing all kinds of stuff with them. I just want a practical boot that is like Indy's. I wonder if those who have the flat sole Alden's has had any issue with the boots being flat soled?

I have flat soled Aldens and I wouldn't wear them hiking... or during the winter. They would be much too slippery. I wish they had rugged soles.

So the flat soles are just not a good sole for any use then?

If you just want them for everyday wear they are.

Both will stand up extremely well to everyday use. Just don't plan on wearing aldens in the rain/snow due to the poor traction from the flat soles.

If you're gonna hike in them, rugged would be the way to go. But everyday wear flat sole should be good.

I will do everything from a little hiking to wearing them out on the town so I guess that rugged soles should be the way to go...I really can't decide.....

Get them normally soled, and if you use them, and find them too slippery, take them to your local footwear specialist and get the rubber soles with a decent grip added perhaps? It's an easy enough add-on...
That way you cover both bases if you need the change, and are safe if you don't...

(Or ask Indy to see if he can send you the soles they use at Magnoli seperate from the boots..Then you can add those on and be sure you get the options for "best of both worlds" if needed..Indy's a great guy and more than open to helping out like that if he can..
I reckon..)

Sorry...Having looked at Magnoli's site, the soles are a one-piece eh?
Well...I'd still say buy them without and if needed layer one on with a local shoe specialist....Then you can choose the style you want and what you need it for, and they'll still look SA enough for you to not have to worry about the blacker soling..
Sorry about the post before...I'd not been able to check..
Regards..

Ordered my Magnoli boots on the 25th of February and I got an email today saying that they are shipped and should be here Monday!!
I got the flat soles with the oilskin leather. Had to request it. Magnoli said its the best leather he carries and ages nicely. I can't wait until they get here!!!!

What about the Toe Stitching and Leather Color? You never gave us your final word on that. Steven

I got the whit stitching on the toes and the base color is saddle tan. However the oil skin leather is the best leather that he carries. He recommended that so I went with it. I am excited to see the final product!!

Received my boots this morning and all I can say is WOW!!! The saddle tan color on the oilskin leather nailed the look in my opinion!! They are a little heavier than I anticipated, but nothing of the weight of steel toed boots or Red Wings either!!! I will try and post pics later!!
Love the fit and the look of these boots...I love my wife even more for letting me splurge on these boots!!

They look rather damned solid! Very well built boots! I rather like the darker colouring too...
My Aldens are the best and most comfortable pair of shoes I own... If I have a day where I'll be standing or walking a lot they are my "go-to's" everytime...Nothing beats them..
Good choice I think! And thanks for the photos!

Yeah I like the darker color myself!! They are very comfortable and feel fantastic! I have wore them just about everyday since I got them. I have had no issues with them as of yet!! The inside of the boots are lined with the softest leather I have ever seen or felt with a nice amount of padding in the inside. I love these boots!!!

If you haven't yet, I'd only suggest buying some nice (cedar) inserts..Since the shoes will keep their shape far better with them..I have them in mine now, and it really makes them feel "like new" each time I put them on...Well worth the investment in them...

There are few things worse than receiving a pair of boots that don't fit. You are very fortunate! And they really do look great. -Josh

OK when I was in the planning phase on my boots, I considered everyone's input before making my order. I know that the general consensus was that flat bottoms were not the best when it was raining. Since I received my boots, I have wore them a lot to get them broke in and the such. The last couple days it has rained a lot. I have wore them in the rain and had no issue slipping at all. I even walked across a floor that was recently mopped with no issues. Could it be the construction of the soles from Aldens to Magnoli's that are making the difference? I also replaced my strings with a pair of Alden 405 strings and they look great!!
