The first costume he wears is pretty clunky as in the comics. It's only the later one where we see the red and gold. Looks pretty cool, and here is a quote from the director from his myspace page. Imagine if Spielberg was this forthright, we'd not have anything to talk about! myspace link

From what I've heard there are more than just those two suits in the film and I think even War Machine will be introduced. He's Tony's friend Jim Rhodes. He took over as Iron Man once while Tony was drunk off his butt.
Robert Downey Jr. is a perfect choice to play Tony in my opinion. Talk about getting someone who knows what it's like to battle addiction.
There was some video leaked on the net a few days ago. It showed them shooting some scenes on location. One of the stunt-men were wearing the gold and red armor. You get to see him moving around in it. To me it reminds me of how Robocop looked only it's much more streamlined and it looks like he can move pretty easily in it.
To me the suits are perfect. I don't know how you could get any closer to the comic book version.

You know, I am fine with the costume updates, but why did they change the mouth? For some reason it makes him look like a ventriloquist dummy. They should have left the slit.

Rick, that is exactly how his suit has looked in the books for a few years now. I know what style your referring to though. I have a feeling we might see the older version of the suit somewhere during the film though.

I agree about the slit,...the 70's Iron Man looked the best, IMHO. His mouth looks like that adamantium killer robot from the Secret Wars,..can't recall the name,....little help?? Ultron maybe?? Mike

I have not bought a comic book in 20 years ...and it shows. Hahahaha Well, that's ok. They've changed his armor about 80 times during that period of time......if not more than that. So don't feel bad about being behind when it comes to Iron Man's wardrobe! ;D Do you remember the "Stealth armor" that appeared for about one issue? It was all black. My friend got the comic and he and I loved the look. I agree about the slit,...the 70's Iron Man looked the best, IMHO. His mouth looks like that adamantium killer robot from the Secret Wars,..can't recall the name,....little help?? Ultron maybe?? Mike Yeah, it was Ultron and he's still causing Stark and the Avengers trouble too. I agree that the mouth does look like Ultron's but at the same time I've kind of grown used to his new armor and I kind of like it. It would be nice to see the classic 70's Iron Man suit in the movie though.

Wow, that's a shot I haven't seen before. Ok, so if he's held in captivity and builds the first suit to escape how the heck does he insert the chest piece in himself to keep his heart going? I'm not totally familar with his entire origin. I've always been a Spidey guy.

IIRC, the people who captured him(Japanese, I believe) saved him, so he could keep working on war machines for them. He had an assistant who helped him, and I believe gives his life helping him escape. 'Blues

The two shots that KT templer posted are taken from the box of the DVD of a animated IronMan movie. Thats what got me confused. Really? The grey one is definately from the new movie, see the stark industries logo in the background and the render is widely reported to be from the movie too. Ref: Superhero Hype and Aint it cool. Looks like the guy's doing the animated dvd got some early shots and snuck them in.

I haven't watched the animated move yet. I was told by my seven year old son not to watch it without him hopefully tonight.

I haven't seen any of the Marvel animated movies yet either....including Iron Man. It's possible they have some sneak peak images from the movie included with that DVD.

The story looks just like the animated movie. I hope it's a lot better than the cartoon.
