That's another thing, what is the difference between Fuller's Earth and dirt... I mean I can go to the little field behind me and through some dirt on it and get the same effect. Why would I spend $5.00 on dirt. Someone enlighten me. Tycoonman Fuller's Earth has the consistency of talcum powder. It is very light and a little goes a long way. G-Mann sent me a free sample and at the rate I use it could last me a long time. You'd have to get some pretty fine light colored dirt to get the same look. It also might not show up as well in the photos either. Maybe that's why movie studios use this stuff instead of dirt. I thought the same way you did until I used it. I'd rather go this route than permanently distress the jacket. I don't think I could get mine to come out as good looking as Blues jacket......

Thanks Ptifall, I appreciate that. Wasn't as hard as you think. Another note about the Fullers Earth, it won't turn to mud like dirt will, when it gets wet. 'Blues

So it is like the really yellowish colored dirt in my back yard that has the consistance of sand when wet, yet is like a powder when dry... god I love living in Colorado!
Then I also have Aspen Tree dust, now that stuff really makes a nice affect on my hat and clothes... I wonder what its affects on felt are though.

Actually, probably the best way to distress any gear would be to just to wear it out while your hiking in the woods. Roll around in the dirt a little bit. Pretend your a kid again. When I was a kid I used to go down to the park and roll down some of the giant hills they had there just for the fun of it. I know it would look rather silly, especially in gear , because I'm an adult but that might help in the distressing process. Just do it while no one is around. ;D
As far as the Fuller's Earth goes I've never gotten it wet so I'm not sure what the consistency of it is.....Blues says it doesn't muddy up. I'm guessing it's so light that it probably dissolves into nothing.

i heard fullers is like a clean dirt / clay. ITs safer on ur hat than getting real dirt on it, cause it just brushes off if u want. ITs lighter too so it shows up better. Im going to work on the wested more in the next 2 weeks. I need to distress the crap out of my bespin luke costume for the DVD release next tuesday first. Its definitely not perfect, but it was the entire costume for 300 so i spurlged. Great gear to rip apart for end of duel look though. Check out me when i first got some of my gear. with some charcoal and acrylic paints for distressing its looking great. Ill post pics after i finish everything.

That Bespin costume looks great! I wonder if anything can be done to the boots to bring them up a bit. Really, they're the only thing that detracts from it. Maybe if they were dyed to match the pants more closely or something. I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. The rest of the costume looks fantastic! And for $300 for the whole shabang! NICE WORK!

yeaaa so i took a cottom ball of some acetone to my jacket today lol, wow really does pull the color right off! But it wasnt until it dried that i realized this lol. Actually i did it under the colar some like suggested, so its not soooo bad. It kinda got white lol i have to laugh about it or ill punch myself. Im gonna ahve to distress it more now i guess but ill take the safer aproach that blues tried. I want to check out stills first to see the correct raiders distressing. I would still like a lambskin at some point, soooooo soft mmmmmmmmmm lambbbb

Yes, be careful, because the color can come off quick if you apply to much to one area. The leather will dry quickly, so do a little bit, see the change,...do a little more,...move to the next area, etc. Aren't you glad you tried UNDER the collar first??? No one will ever see under there. Keep us posted. 'Blues

but i like to wear the colar popped for the entrace to the temple look, plus it covers my anakin shag from behind. Oh well, cant brown pecards fix that some, or regular pecards? I need to try to alchohal method and some sand paper too.
IS there a few good pics that show the distressing well of a raiders, or are their particular marks that make the jacket distinguishable? I need some referance pics!!!! And how far is too much on a riaders jacket?

The raiders jacket looked the most "real world" distressed, with TOD coming a close second. Last Crusade looked cool, but not realistic. I don't have any reference pics, but I'm sure there are a ton out there. 'Blues

what are some more ways to wear in a wested goat for that wet worn in look. Ive done the dryer method a few times, and wet it alot. At first i wet towels, then i just sprayed it alot with a bottle. I hung my jacket in the bathroom tonight and blasted the water really hot so it steemed up. Not sure what it did so far, but it definitely turned my skin red lol.
Will pecards soften the leather up more or would it just protect it, and mess up any more distressing i want to do. Never did it to my jacket yet because i wanted it to wear in.
I know lamb responds much better to the shrinkage. Ever since having lamb tabbards ive wanted a lamb wested, but i dont want to sell mine really or buy a new one. But i do want one, and tigheter this time.

I actually took my distressed one under the garden hose and really wet it good. Then, I put it in the dryer, with low heat, for limited doses. I allowed it to cool, then popped it back in a few times. It actually did shrink up on me, which was what I was going for. This one was lamb, but the principle should work the same for any leather. Of course, this was also my "second" jacket, as I wouldn't have had the nerve to do such things to my one and only. indylounge.proboards105.com/index.cgi?board=distressing&action=display&thread=1147839749Ken
