Wow, great hat . It looks almost identical to my Fed IV, which is an awesome hat in its own right. That really looks like like it would be a very nice every day hat for shopping or churching or whatever.

Awesome looking hat, Nibs! The Adventurer seems to make quite a nice all-around Indy fedora, and I really like the loose pinch LC style on this one. Nice job! Great looking fedora ! Can someone provide a link for Christies ? I can't seem to find it ! Stef, This site sells them at a great price. Scroll about halfway down and you'll see the "Adventurer". www.hornetshats.com/f_hatview.php?link=link6

Mister Nibs, that is a fantastic looking hat! Real good stuff! Let us know how it holds up. I know that your not gonna jump outa planes with it or anything, but I'm curious as to how tough it may be and how long it maintains its structural integrity with regular or constant use.

Thanks for the link guys !
But on the provided image, the crown looks really short !!!
They should use Idynibs pics for their web page...the hat looks WAY better on his images !
Idynibs, what color did you order? Cork would seem to fit the pics you shown.

That's the "Indy" color, as it's supposedly the same color as the original HJs. I'm quite interested in a "Burma" colored Adventurer myself, and I may just end up ordering two of them (one in Sable and one in Burma). The Burma looks very much like the famous seaplane gray in Raiders.

Nibs, that is a fantastic looking hat! I love the LC bash. Stefana, that is definitely sable. Mine, that I posted in GCR's thread, is sable and looks just like IndyNibs'. -Josh

when i first got the hat, i thought the same thing...that the crown was too short, but after shaping it myself, i compared it to my AB deluxe and all the dimensions were the same who knows, maybe i'll end up having to hold on to falling bridges, escape from a huge boulder, or go over a waterfall- i'll let you know how the hat holds up!! ;D

Nibs, when did you get yourself an AB Deluxe? Congrats on that purchase as well! I'd love to see some pics!

Is that your AB Deluxe underneath the Adventurer?

Is that your AB Deluxe underneath the Adventurer? -Josh I'd bet a fairly large sum of money that the hat underneath his Adventurer in those pics is a regular AB, because I believe it is the one I sold to him earlier this year. Even if it isn't the same AB I sold him, it's definitely one of Steve's ABs...I can tell by the bow. Regardless, it's one sweet looking hat, as is the new Christy's on top of it! I am DEFINITELY going to have to get myself a Christy's Adventurer sometime soon.

I am slowly starting to fall in love with the Adventurer. Though I will never regret my Fed IV, I should have waited two weeks...LoL.

Very nice hat! Thanks for sharing, and Griff, thanks for the link.
This is tempting for the price...I've been without a hat since the unfortunate shrinking incident involving my Jimmy Pierce hat. I like the idea of a smaller crown, since the JP hat never looked quite right on me.
Ken, whatcha think, per our last phone conversation? Do you think this hat might work better?

Steve,
It might indeed. My only question is what are the official specs on this hat (crown height, brim dimensions)? I think you were wanting a hat with a slightly shorter crown, weren't you?
BTW, how is the family?

Thanks Ken. I'm not sure about the dimensions -- I was going off some of the other comments about the crown appearing shorter than on other hats. I'll have to do some more research...
Regarding the family, we'll have to touch base again and I can fill you in. We're all hanging in there. Thanks for asking my friend!

Steve, the Christy's Adventurer supposedly has a crown height of 5.25 inches, though Nibs says his hat appears to be the same height as his AB. If it's the same AB I sold to him earlier this year, then the AB in question would have a 5.5 inch crown. That being the case, I'd guess the Christy's might not be as short as advertised. Then again, I have no idea how tall your JPD was to begin with, as I know some folks were getting them with a 5.75 inch crown for a while. A lot of the perception of how high a crown really is can be affected by the front pinch height as well. Two 5.5 inch open crown hats, with different front pinch heights (even as slight a difference as .25 of an inch) will look drastically different in person. Keeping the front pinch somewhere in the ballpark of 4.5 inches (or even under depending on your hatsize) will typically keep the proportions correct on a 5.5 inch crown. One word of warning, however, is the complete lack of info on how well these Christy's hats will hold up to any sort of prolonged wear. Much has been made of the similarities they share with the modern HJ's, and that's not necessarily good company to be in if you're looking for a rugged hat that will handle lots of use. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying the Christy's CAN'T handle that sort of treatment, just that no one really knows whether they can or can't yet, so that's something to be aware of, especially if you had a shrinking problem with your previous hat. If it's any consolation, I never thought the JPD looked too tall on ya.

Thanks Griff. This is extremely helpful information. As I explained to Ken previously, I'm on a limited budget these days (pesky medical bills), so this particular hat is tempting because of the price and the potential smaller crown. 5.25 inches, while not screen accurate, probably works better for me.
Also, I appreciate the kind words about my JPD, but the taller crown just didn't seem to suit my head -- unless I listened to my wife too much!
However, no point in buying the Adventurer if it's going to fall apart, so I guess I should wait to hear about some field tests...

Steve,
The Christys' are made to order it seems. If you really would like a shorter crown, it might be an idea to drop them a line and see if they can make you a hat slightly shorter. Or at least confirm the specs.
