Well I went ahead and made a new bow. I went with plain black grosgrain ribbon that I got from Wal-mart. I've never sewn before or done anything like this so I was a bit nervous, especially once I ripped off the original bow. EDIT: I think I have a little OCD. I went to JoAnn fabrics and bought some better ribbon that wasn't so thin/glossy looking and made another bow. ORIGINAL AKUBRA BOWMY NEW BOW-Scott

Thanks Noah,
I think the black contrasts better with the darker felt of the Fed 4.

Nice work indeed And I agree Fuzzjunk, I had an old chocolate colored stetson cowboy hat that I cut down and reblocked indy style. I originaly put a dark brown ribbon on it that looked good under artificial light but in the sun looked too lite on the hat. Grosgrain is funny like that. I changed it to black. -Dusty

zmarty,
I wouldn't get the ribbon at walmart though, I just bought some more ribbon at JoAnn's and it was much nicer. It was about $1 more per yard but much better quality.

Did you save the ribbon and bow of the fed?
If so you can iron it flat and then re work the bow and put it back on. It would be a lot better than using the the stuff you got from the store.

Thanks for the info . But for me, my Fed took a beating, ribbon and all . 6 years of everyday ware rain, snow hot sun. The ribbon was faded and the overall color was light and a hole started to develop at the top of the raiders pinch. I wanted to fix up to retire the hat.
